5 Taconic crash victims laid to rest
Friends and family said their final goodbyes Thursday to five members of the Long Island family killed in a Westchester car crash.
The funeral was held for Diane Schuler, of West Babylon, her 2-year-old daughter, Erin, and Schuler's three nieces: 8-year-old Emma Hance, 7-year-old Alison Hance and 5-year-old Kate Hance, at Our Lady of Victory Church in Floral Park.
Authorities say the five Long Islanders were killed when Schuler's van, which was headed in the wrong direction, slammed into an SUV Sunday on the Taconic State Parkway.
State investigators have confirmed Schuler pulled over while driving, called her brother and said she was having trouble seeing, felt disoriented and was ill.
A wake was held Thursday for Michael Bastardi and his son, Guy Bastardi, of Yonkers, who were in the SUV. A service for Daniel Longo, the third person in the SUV, will be held Monday.
