Yonkers PD welcomes new recruits

The Yonkers Police Department held a swearing-in ceremony Friday for 33 new recruits and promoted six of its officers.
The rookies will join the police department's effort to stop the gang wars that have resulted in eight shootings since the beginning of summer.
Yonkers Police Commissioner Edmund Hartnett says even with the addition of the recruits, there are still more than two dozen vacancies left unfilled.
Mayor Phil Amicone says the department got caught up in a budget battle.
"We don't have the funding I think we need," he says.
