Witnesses spotted erratic minivan before crash
Investigators said Monday that several witnesses reported seeing a red Ford minivan driving erratically before a fiery crash that killed eight people on the Taconic State Parkway.
Police say witness interviews have revealed that a minivan with a female operator and several children inside was being driven aggressively on State Route 17 and Interstate 87 of the New York Thruway.
West Babylon resident Diane Schuler, her 2-year-old daughter and her three nieces were killed in the parkway crash. Three other men in another vehicle were also killed. Schuler's 5-year-old son survived.
Investigators are not certain that the erratic minivan is the one that was driven by Schuler, but they say the timeline of events and route of travel coincide with Schuler's.
