A mother and child were injured in a car accident on I-684 in Katonah Friday.

Police say the crash happened at 12:30 p.m. when a Chappaqua woman lost control of her car and drove down an embankment. The car then hit a tree next to the road. Police say the driver's 2-year-old son was knocked unconscious.

Although the child was in his car seat, police say he had to be extricated from the vehicle. The mother and son were taken to the Westchester Medical Center in critical condition.
