Westchester hosts Maccabi Games

Westchester began hosting nearly 2,000 Jewish teenagers from around the world as the Maccabi Games got under way Monday.

The opening ceremony for the Maccabi Games, an Olympics-style sporting event for Jewish teenagers, took place at Madison Square Garden. Basketball, soccer and swimming are among the 11 featured events.

The Maccabi Games celebrate Jewish history, heritage and culture. They are held every four years.

There was a water shortage early Monday but by the afternoon every athlete had enough water to beat the heat.
