Residents of a Yonkers neighborhood were evacuated Tuesday while police searched for a suspect in a deadly Mount Vernon shooting.
Authorities say the manhunt started when Mount Vernon detectives spotted 26-year-old William Robinson on Warburton Avenue in Yonkers. Mount Vernon Police Commissioner David Chong says when Robinson saw officers approaching him, he took off.
Police from Yonkers, Mount Vernon and Westchester County scoured the area for the suspect by air and ground until they located him inside a garage on Halcyon Place and arrested him.
The Charter School for Excellence on Warburton Avenue went into lockdown while police searched for Robinson.
