Relatives of Taconic crash victims demand probe
The family members of two Yonkers men killed in the wrong-way Taconic State Parkway crash in July are calling on a grand jury to reopen the investigation of the accident.
Westchester District Attorney Janet DiFiore closed the case in August, saying the only person who could have been charged was the deceased driver, Diane Schuler. Autopsy results showed that Schuler was drunk and intoxicated when she went the wrong way and crashed into the van containing Michael and Guy Bastardi, along with their friend.
However, Bastardi family members say they want to know who supplied Schuler with alcohol and marijuana before she got behind the wheel.
Bastardi family attorney Irving Anolik says his request to empanel a grand jury has been rejected. Now he intends to take his fight to the attorney general.
