DA: Yonkers serial killer arrested

The Westchester County district attorney unsealed an indictment today against a man who is allegedly responsible for three Yonkers serial killings.

Francisco Acevedo, of Mount Vernon, is accused of raping and murdering Kimberly Moore at the Trade Winds Motel on Yonkers Avenue in 1996. He is also allegedly connected to the deaths of Tawanda Hodges in 1991 and Maria Ramos in 1989.

The Yonkers Police Department has been searching for the serial killer for 21 years. Investigators eventually found the suspect, Acevedo, in an upstate prison serving one to three years for a DWI conviction. Police say a DNA sample linked Acevedo to the killings.

Acevedo was arraigned and is now being held in Westchester County Jail without bail. He faces life in prison and is due in court April 27.
