Meeting on water treatment plant today

United Water representatives will be in Rockland today to discuss plans to set up a new water filtration plant and provide customers with Hudson River water for drinking.

The AARP invited United Water to explain the proposal at a public forum this afternoon.

United Water representatives say the population in Rockland County has increased by 15 percent since 1980 and that the new filtration plant would help meet the growing demand for clean water. They also say the new filtration plant would be more cost effective than building a new reservoir.
