White Plains is one of the greenest cities

Today is Earth Day 2010, and one of the greenest cities in Westchester is already being honored with a ?Green Star Award? for environmental friendliness.

The city of White Plains was given the award partially because the sanitation trucks there run primarily on bio-diesel fuel.

Yesterday, the White Plains Public Works garage played host to county and private waste disposal companies from around the Hudson Valley to educate them about bio-diesel fuel.

White Plains was deemed the first clean city in New York State by the U.S. Department of Energy in 1994 and has been using bio-diesel fuel for the past three years.
