Yonkers Raceway hit with $20M tax bill

(AP) - Yonkers has hit the Raceway with a $20million tax bill.

City officials claim the track owes the money as part of a taxon admission fees.

The state no longer requires tracks to charge admission. But thecity says it is still owed the 30 percent tax that would come witha $2.50 admission fee.

The city claims the taxes are close to $16 million. Withinterest and penalties, officials say the tab comes to $20 millionthat dates to 2007.

An estimated 136,000 people a week visit Empire City at YonkersRaceway, mainly for the video gaming.

Track officials say they'll fight the bill.

Lottery officials declined to comment, saying it's an issuebetween the city and the track.
