Funeral held for Marc Bookal in Newburgh

Hundreds of people gathered at the House of Refuge Church in Newburgh over the weekend to say their final farewells to 4-year-old Marc Bookal, whose body was found last month.

Bookal went missing in December while under the care of his mother's ex-con boyfriend, Cory Byrd.

The boy's body was discovered in a wooded area close to his home. Police have ruled his death a homicide and say Byrd remains a person of interest in the case.

During the funeral, Bookal was remembered by friends and family as a smart, kind-hearted boy.

Bookal was laid to rest at the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Middlehope. His pre-school will hold its own commemoration ceremony Tuesday.
