Accused serial killer transferred to jail

An accused serial killed charged with raping and murdering three women was back in court yesterday.

Francisco Acevedo, 41, was arrested last week for allegedly raping and killing Maria Ramos in 1989, Tawanda Hodges in 1991 and Kimberly Moore in 1996.

George Demillo, of Mount Vernon, says his parents rented an apartment on Rich Avenue to Acevedo in 1994. Two years later, Demillo says Acevedo moved out in the middle of the night.

Prosecutors say prior to his arrest, Acevedo had been serving prison time on a DWI charge and was forced to submit a DNA sample, which matched all three murder scenes.

Today, a judge ruled that Acevedo be transferred to the Westchester County Jail until his next court appearance in May.
