Closed Bear Mountain Bridge causes traffic

The Bear Mountain Bridge will be shut down today as a major repaving project begins, creating a traffic nightmare for commuters in northern Westchester.

Motorists are being advised to avoid the area near the bridge between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., and to obey any signs indicating the road is closed or risk being ticketed.

Signs have been posted in the nearby Annesville Circle advising drivers of the closures in both directions on Bear Mountain Bridge Road, also known as Route 6/202.
