Disaster drill held at Westchester Co. Airport

Hundreds of firefighters, police officers and EMS workers took part in a full-scale emergency drill at the Westchester County Airport this weekend.

As part of the scenario given to first responders, after a plane took off from the airport, the pilot discovered smoke in the cabin, turned around and came in for an emergency landing. When the jet touched down, its landing gear collapsed and it collided with a small plane, with both aircraft becoming engulfed in flames.

Firefighters practiced getting inside the plane, represented by a school bus, to free passengers stuck inside and treat some 100 injured victims.
