Yonkers PD: Most violent weekend in a year

Yonkers Police are calling this past weekend one of the most violent in at least a year after having to deal with five shootings, two stabbings, an armed robbery and two gang beatings.

The two beatings were reportedly so severe that the victims barely survived.

One of the shootings sent bullets flying through a Cliff Street neighborhood house with children inside, and on Saturday morning, employees at a beverage store on McLean Avenue were held up at gunpoint.

Yonkers PBA President Detective Keith Olson says that the violence is further proof that more police officers are needed.

"This idea of laying off cops is ludicrous," Olson says. "Mayor Bloomberg will not lay off cops, we're asking our mayor to do the same."
