Family OK after tree falls on car in Tarrytown

A tree toppled over onto a car at the Tarrytown Metro-North station this week, narrowly avoiding killing a family.

Joanne Hovasapian says she was standing by her car with her daughter Sara, waiting to pick up her husband, when a tree collapsed and crushed the vehicle.

Sara Hovasapian was bruised on the back when she was hit by the tree. Her father suffered several cuts, which required stitches.

Joanne Hovasapian, who suffered some scratches, says she's thankful their injuries were relatively minor.

In an effort to prevent similar incidents in the future, crews have been making their way down the Saw Mill Parkway today, clearing trees damaged by nor'easters in March.
