Worry grows over violence in Yonkers schools

During an investigation of a bomb threat at Emerson Middle School this week, Yonkers police say they arrested a 13-year-old girl who was in possession of a knife.

According to police, someone sent an e-mail to the middle school yesterday, telling everyone to leave the building.

When police arrived to investigate, they say they found nothing, but did question a 14-year-old student and his sister.

Riverside High School also had to be locked down yesterday after family members of a student allegedly arrived there to retaliate for a reported robbery.

The recent incidents have led PBA President Keith Olson to post updates about street and school violence on Facebook to keep the public informed and to try to stop police layoffs.
