Street in Airmont renamed for fallen Marine

An Airmont street is being renamed in honor of a local Marine who was killed during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Cpl. Steve Vahaviolos, 21, was killed four years ago when he and three of his comrades drowned when the tank they were riding in rolled into a canal. Now, Eleanor Place where Vahaviolos lived with his family for more than a decade will bear his name.

"Freedom is not free," says Vahaviolos' father, Gus. "Somebody always has to pay the sacrifice for everybody to enjoy it."
