'Home Star Bill' could bring rebates to HV

Congressman John Hall (D-N.Y.) met with contractors in Croton this week to discuss a new federal energy bill that could bring both contractors and homeowners some much needed tax relief.

The 'Home Star Bill' is currently on its way to the Senate, and could provide rebates of up to $3,000 for installing certain energy-saving appliances and devices.

Under the bill, homeowners will be able to undergo energy audits to see where they might be losing energy due to improper sealing, insulation and/or wasteful appliances.

People who obtain an audit before renovating may qualify for up to $8,000 in rebates on items like new water heaters, duct sealing, insulation and energy-efficient windows and doors.
