Newburgh drug raids net 78 alleged gang members

Nearly 80 alleged members of the Bloods and Latin Kings gangs were arraigned yesterday following early morning drug raids in Newburgh.

Seventy-eight suspects were taken into custody at around 6 a.m. by more than 600 officials from the Safe Streets Task Force. The alleged gang members were later charged with dealing crack cocaine and heroin, as well as weapons possession and conspiracy.

Eighteen alleged members of the Latin Kings were arraigned in White Plains, while 60 suspected members of the Bloods appeared before a judge in Manhattan.

FBI officials say the raids are the culmination of an 18-month investigation involving more than 20 different agencies.
