4 WC school budgets defeated

At least one Westchester school district will be adopting a state-mandated contingency budget after voters defeated the proposed school budget during yesterday's voting.

Residents in Mount Vernon faced the prospect of a 8.6% property tax hike if they approved the district's proposed budget. In a school district newsletter released before the vote, officials stated that if voters defeated their budget, a re-vote would not be held and a contingency vote would be adopted.

In the Katonah Lewisboro district, voters decided against a $111 million budget by nearly 200 votes.

Voters in Ossining decided against a budget that included tax hikes of nearly 3.8%.

The Pocantico Hills budget, one of the only budgets in the Hudson Valley that included a tax cut, was also defeated.
