Veteran Port Chester cop found dead

A 35-year veteran of the Port Chester Police Department was found dead in his home Thursday morning.

Police say Michael Gaj was found dead by fellow officers who went to check on him when he didn't show up for work. They say he had a gunshot wound that appears to be self-inflicted. Chief Joseph Krzeminski says there seems to be no foul play.

Krzeminski says Gaj was an instrumental part of the department. He adds that he was a guy who always seemed in good spirits.

The department plans to hold a memorial service for Gaj.
