Monument to fallen Yonkers firefighter unveiled
A special memorial to fallen firefighter Patrick Joyce was unveiled over the weekend in front of a crowd packed with friends, family and colleagues at the Yonkers Fire Headquarters.
Joyce, 39, died in the line of duty after having to leap from a burning home on Waverly Street back in October.
Yonkers Fire Commissioner Anthony Pagano says the memorial shows just how much Joyce meant to his fellow firefighters. "We look at it and may say 'it's a piece of something built of wood and metal,'" Pagano says. "But it's really something built from the men's hearts."
An evicted tenant, Rafael Roldan, has been charged with setting the fire that killed Joyce and injured two other Yonkers firefighters. He is currently awaiting trial.
