Final salute for 35-year veteran detective

Nearly 200 law enforcement officers, friends and family gathered to bid a final farewell to Port Chester Police Detective Michael Gaj at the Corpus Christi Church yesterday.

Gaj was found dead inside his Port Chester home last week with a gunshot wound to his chest. The medical examiner has ruled his death a suicide.

Gaj?s fellow officers say that he was a happy, go-lucky type of person.

?Everybody is just taken aback and in shock,? says Sgt. Terence Wilson, of the Rye Brook Police Department. ?It's just out of the blue.?

Gaj had been with the Port Chester Police Department for 35 years.
