Democratic convention in full swing in Rye Brook
New York Democrats today chose Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand to run for their U.S. Senate seats in November.
The moves at the state party's convention in Rye Brook were no surprise. Polls put Schumer far ahead of potential Republican challengers while Gillibrand is seeking election to the Senate seat she was appointed to last year.
Schumer said he plans to continue keeping Westchester County in mind while working on behalf of the state in the nation's capital.
"The biggest problem is Westchester has a good strong government, but taxes are too high," he says. "I worked with the last county executive and the current one too ... to work to find a solution and we're doing that right now."
