Dogs helping in gulf oil spill cleanup

Man's best friends are proving their worth in White Plains as one pet care center is sending dog hair to the south to help with the gulf oil spill cleanup.

Dog hair is being shipped by the box load from the Best Friends Pet Care in White Plains because, apparently, dog hair naturally absorbs grease and oil.

"We have such a resource of hair," says Best Friends manager Kelly Kurash. "We just throw it away, so why not donate it to a cause that needs it?"

The dog hair is molded into what looks like a mat that then soaks up any oil it touches.

Managers say it doesn't matter whether your dog is short-haired or long-haired. For more information on how you and your pooch can help,.
