29 recruits graduate from WC Police Academy

Twenty-nine new recruits graduated from the Westchester County Police Academy today as local police departments are continuing to face tight budgets.

The graduates from the 129th police academy class crossed the stage at Purchase College to accept their diplomas and begin their careers in law enforcement.

For three of the graduates it was a bittersweet day. Kevin Beall, Ryan Lobo and Derrick Montiero entered the academy with hopes of joining the White Plains Police Department, but because of budget cuts, that won't happen.

White Plains Public Safety Commissioner David Chong says he feels their pain.

"As fiscal conditions get better, we [will] certainly want to bring them back into our family," he says.
