Rockland teen hit, killed by train

A 15-year-old girl from Rockland County was struck and killed by a train last night.

Police say the teen and a friend were walking north of the Nanuet station near the Thruway overpass when she was hit by a New Jersey Transit train.

The victim's friend was able to get out of the way and was treated for shock.

The victim's name is not being released because of her age.

Police say this particular line is more deadly because local residents take illegal shortcuts. Thirteen people have died in the area since 1985.
