State GOP set for annual convention

State Republicans will officially kick off their annual convention tomorrow in Manhattan.

Last week, the state Democratic Party chose Andrew Cuomo as its candidate for governor. Now the state GOP will choose from among four candidates to head their party's ticket; Rick Lazio, a former Long Island congressman, Buffalo businessman Carl Paladino, Manhattan real estate executive Myers Mermel and Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy.

There are also several other statewide races in the spotlight this year. Republicans will be going after the seats of U.S. Sens. Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand, as well as trying to replace Andrew Cuomo as attorney general.
