Tuxedo Park teen killed by train mourned

Students and teachers are mourning the loss of a 15-year-old Tuxedo Park girl who was fatally struck by a NJ Transit train in Nanuet over the weekend.

Friends say Ariana Wellen, a former student at George F. Baker High School, was a positive, nice person who had a lot of friends and inspired her classmates. Fellow students and friends posted hundreds of messages on a Facebook page honoring her memory.

School administrators say grief counselors are at the school to aid students in need.

MTA police say Wellen was walking with a friend north of the Nanuet station in Rockland when she was hit by an oncoming train bound for Hoboken. Her friend was unharmed, but treated for shock.
