A Yonkers mother was rescued after a freak accident sent her tumbling down a cliff on her motorcycle.
It happened in the parking lot of her apartment on Highland Avenue in Yonkers. Tammy Lewis, a mother of three, was on her bike outside of her apartment late Thursday when she apparently hit the throttle by mistake.
Lewis took off on the bike, slammed into a fence, and then dropped 30 feet down a cliff.
Yonkers police say it took more than 20 minutes to rescue Lewis, strap her to a board and slowly lower her out of the woods onto Stanley Avenue, where she was taken in for treatment.
Deborah Baker, president of the tenant's association where Lewis lives, says the accident might have been prevented if the parking lot were safer. "It's darkness," says Baker. "There's no bright light coming in here, anything could've happened."
Bakers' friends say her injuries are not considered life-threatening, but she's already had one surgery and may need several more.
