Ryan Reyes wins nationwide art contest despite cancer diagnosis
A Westchester County teen diagnosed with cancer is the big winner of a nationwide art contest at Westchester County Medical Center.
Ryan Reyes was chosen as the winner of the nationwide White Cloud tissue box contest.
Reyes's artwork will now be displayed on white cloud boxes that will be sold in Wal-Mart stores all over the country. "It was like winning an Oscar. We were in the computer room when it popped up that Ryan was the winner," says Art Therapist Gabrielle Bellettier.
Ryan, just 14 years old, was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, a form of cancer in the lymph nodes. He is hoping the real message behind the box is well received. "When I did this tissue box, I hoped it would touch other people and inspire them to do what they want."
