NYS says no to certifying IP plan

(01/30/03) YORKTOWN - The New York State Office of Emergency Management announced it will not certify the evacuation plan for Indian Point.

The director of SEMO issued a statement saying that since no formal reports from the counties around Indian Point have been forwarded, formal checklists for the Indian Point planning area were unable to be generated at this time.

But Assemblyman Richard Brodsky (D-Elmsford) says the state is dodging responsibility and placing it on the counties.

Meanwhile, Entergy, the company that owns Indian Point, says the state's action is positive. Opponents of Indian Point would like to see the nuclear plants closed down.
