Three Cottage School girls sentenced

(02/04/03) WHITE PLAINS - The last of the eight girls convicted in the beating of their counselor at Pleasantville Cottage School were sentenced Tuesday.

Takiya Miller, Lydia Orellana and Crystal Silva will spend the next couple of years in a state run juvenile facility. Each girl received a different sentence based on their role in the attack on counselor Edith Toro last February. Toro was punched, kicked and beaten with a telephone and set on fire.

Miller received five years for her part in the attack and both Orellana and Silva got 1-4 years.

Toro says most of the girls have shown some remorse in court, but she says that she has to live with the emotional and physical scars for the rest of her life.
