Peekskill laundry company in hot water

(02/06/03) PEEKSKILL - A commercial laundry company is in hot water for allegedly sending polluted water into the regular sewage system.

Highland Light Steam Laundry, which is operated by the White Plains Linen Company in Peekskill, has been under investigation since early January.

Since that time, the director of environmental security discovered that elevated PH levels were in the water which can harm the bacteria that helps clean sewage at a county-run treatment plant. Waste water from the laundry business is treated at the Annsville Creek treatment plant.

White Plains Linen Company is due in court on March 3 to answer to the charges. The company faces a $25,000 fine.
