Bar owners want smoking ban lifted

(07/18/03) WHITE PLAINS - Bar owners across Westchester say the county's smoking ban is causing their businesses to go up in smoke.

The smoking ban went into effect on June 4 and since that time owners like Michael O'Donnell say his profits are dwindling. Owners and bartenders met with county lawmakers Friday pleading with them to revise the law.

Rich Lepkowski, of the American Cancer Society, says the law is not about business it's about living and dying. He wants the law to stay.

County lawmakers say they may take another look at the law. Meanwhile the state smoking ban law is set to go into effect on July 23.
