Convicted Yonkers killer gets 115 years

(07/21/03) WHITE PLAINS - Convicted killer Dennis Alvarez was sentenced Monday to 115 years in prison for murdering his girlfriend and her two children.

The murder of Patricia Torres, 28, her 4-year-old daughter and 7-year-old son prompted Westchester's first death penalty case in nearly 30 years. The three were stabbed to death in their Yonkers apartment three years ago. Torres' older son was also stabbed during the attack, but survived and later testified against Alvarez.

Alvarez was spared from the death penalty after a jury could not come to a unanimous decision, which is needed to sentence someone to death.
