Yonkers hospital makes special delivery
(07/21/03) YONKERS - St. John's Riverside Hospital celebrated a 'special delivery' Monday after welcoming baby number 100,000 into the hospital's nursery.
Joseph Anthony Chirurgi weighed in at 9 pounds 4 ounces. And for being baby number 100,000 his parents received $100,000 in prizes including a full scholarship for their son to Mercy College.
The hospital has been keeping count of births since opening its doors back in 1869. Little Anthony's arrival puts St. John's ahead of all other Westchester hospitals for the highest number of deliveries.
St. John's also held a contest to see who could guess the date and time baby 100,000 would arrive. Denise Ayala of Eastchester came the closest and won an all expense paid trip to Disney.
