Lewisboro town pool leaking chlorine

(07/24/03) LEWISBORO - The Department of Environmental Protection is investigating a chlorine leak at a Lewisboro town pool located on Route 35.

Town officials have discovered that each day thousands of gallons are leaking from the pool. They say the pool is more than 40 years old and the gutters are not working anymore.

The DEP is concerned though since the water is making its way into a pond that is connected to a reservoir. Town officials claim the chlorine is evaporating before the water even gets to the pond, but the DEP is conducting its own investigation to be sure.

Meanwhile, the town has been ordered to remove the chlorine from the water and fix the problem. Right now, the two options are to patch the pool for about $3 million or build a new one for about $4 million.
