Bandits strike bank in Bedford
(07/30/03) BEDFORD - Another bank was robbed in Westchester on Wednesday, and the FBI is saying it could be the work of the same armed bandits who have hit banks elsewhere in the region.
At about 10:30 a.m., two armed men entered the Chase Bank branch on Old Post Road near Lake Avenue in Bedford Village, and announced a holdup. Within minutes, the robbers and $15,000 in cash were gone. Nobody was hurt during the robbery.
The FBI and local police believe the perpetrators may be responsible for eight other recent robberies in the metropolitan area, including ones in Pleasantville and New Rochelle. Police spent the day searching cars along Route 172 and 22 looking for suspects, but to no avail.
There are conflicting descriptions of these latest suspects. Bedford police have told News 12 Westchester they are looking for two white males. However, the FBI says they're looking into a "strong possibility" it could be the previous suspects who were identified as Black or Hispanic.
