Business booms in White Plains
(08/01/03) WHITE PLAINS - The City Center in downtown White Plains is changing the landscape of the city. The new center will combine about 600 apartments with movie theaters and some big name retailers such as Target and Circuit City.
Some feel small stores are being forced out as a result, but the vacancy rate in downtown White Plains is at its lowest in six years. One area business owner says the reason for the low vacancy rate is because of the new City Center.
Despite the addition of the big names many shoppers still like the so-called 'mom and pop' stores. Local retailers are hoping the new center will bring an increase in foot traffic, which might help the small retailers.
