Lightning suspected in church fire

(08/03/03) BRIARCLIFF MANOR - Lightning may be to blame for a fire at a church building in Briarcliff Manor on Sunday morning.

Firefighters were called to 56 Central Drive just west of Route 9A at about 8:45 a.m. Lightning apparently hit the attic of a building that is part of St. Theresa's Church. The building, which used to be a convent, is now being used as temporary housing for priests while the rectory is renovated.

Nobody was inside the building at the time, and firefighters say it didn't take long to extinguish the blaze.
