White Plains daughter accused of murder
(08/10/03) WHITE PLAINS - A 74-year-old woman was found dead Sunday, beaten and suffocated at the Kingsley House, a residence for senior citizens at 41 Barker Avenue. Her daughter is now behind bars, charged with killing her own mother inside the apartment they shared.
Police said sometime this week Halina Dzebolo beat and suffocated her mother. On Friday night, police received a 911 call from Halina, saying her mother Anna had taken a fall. But an autopsy revealed her death was caused by blunt trauma and suffocation.
Building Superintendent Ellen Janero said she did not know the Dzebolo family well, but she did know about the alleged abuse at the senior citizens complex. Janero said she constantly received complaints about Halina from other residents. Janero also said Halina had a history of mental problems, and Halina's mother, Anna, lived in constant fear of her daughter.
Halina Dzebolo is being held without bail. She is charged with second-degree murder and is due to appear in White Plains City Court on Tuesday.
