Yonkers teen in court on murder charges

(08/11/03) WHITE PLAINS - The Yonkers teen accused of killing his stepfather execution style was in court Monday on second-degree murder charges.

Juan Lopez, 18, is accused of killing his 53-year-old stepfather Tito Roncancio last Tuesday. Roncancio was shot once in the head in his bed at his home on Warburton Avenue. Other family members found Roncancio the next day.

Neighbors say they knew something was wrong when Roncancio didn't take in his garbage.

Detectives did find a 12 gauge shotgun in a storm drain that they believe was used in the shooting. Ballistics tests are being conducted to confirm whether that's the case. Lopez allegedly fired the weapon through the front door before shooting his stepfather in the head. Police have yet to release a motive in the case.

Roncancio's murder is the third fatal shooting on the city's west side in less than two weeks.
