Car, taxi collide in Yonkers; several people injured

Several people were hurt, including a small child, after a car and a taxi collided in the middle of a busy intersection Yonkers. It happened just before 6 p.m. Monday at the corner of Nepperhan and Asburton avenues.

A witness said he saw the taxi cab try to make an illegal u-turn and a white Toyota crashed into him.

While some witnesses say the taxi was at fault, others say the white Toyota was speeding through the intersection, trying to beat the light when it hit the taxi.

Yonkers detectives are now in the process of sorting it all out. Police said one adult male was driving the taxi and three adults and an infant were inside the Toyota.

Police say the taxi driver suffered a broken leg. All the adult passengers in the other car were taken to Westchester Medical Center with serious injuries. Officials say the infant in the car is expected to be OK.
