MTV show to focus on Scarsdale teens that went to a school dance drunk
MTV camera crews were at White Plains Hospital filming part of a new show called "High School Stories, Scandals, Pranks and Controversies." The show, which is set to air in mid-October, will feature an episode based on teen drinking at Scarsdale High School.
On Tuesday, the camera crews were re-enacting a scene from last year's Scarsdale High School homecoming dance, when 28 students showed up drunk and some had to be rushed to the hospital. The crews simulated filming used current Scarsdale students emulating their classmates.
The idea of Westchester teens being featured in a nationally televised episode about underage drinking has received mixed reviews in the community. Scarsdale police say the exposure will once again put underage drinking in the spotlight and unfairly give the area a bad rap. Others say the show might be a wakeup call for teens to see the harmful effects of underage drinking.
Since the homecoming dance incident, Scarsdale police say the number of teen drinking arrests has dropped in the town.
