Arson suspected in fire that destroyed a Mohegan Lake home
A fire that gutted a Mohegan Lake home Thursday has been ruled suspicious.
The fire happened at 3899 Ettman Street in the Mohegan Lake section of Yorktown. Chief Ray Stretz, of the Lake Mohegan Fire Department, says trouble with a nearby hydrant that may have been tampered with made him suspicious of the fire right away. Although tests for gasoline or some other accelerant have not been completed, Stretz says it looks like the fire started in an area away from wires or anything that could have started burning.
Police are now investigating what caused the fire hydrant to not work properly.
News 12 Westchester could not reach the family who owns the home for a comment. No one was injured in the fire.
