Yonkers downtown business district gets a new look

A project to completely overhaul Getty Square is just about finished.

Getty Square, the heart of the Yonkers downtown business district, has had its streets repaved, new sidewalks installed and garbage on the streets cleaned up. It's all part of an effort by the Yonkers Office of Downtown and Waterfront Development, and local businesses to bring more shoppers to the area.

Besides new streets and sidewalks, a number of stores received new green awnings to spruce up the look of the area. Officials want to make people feel at home when shopping in Getty Square.

Right now, there's still more work that needs to be done to the facades of some of the buildings. And the Office of Downtown Development is hoping to get a grant from the state to repair more sidewalks.
