Indian Point evacuation plan to include Witt report findings

County board members received information on how the Witt report will be included in the IP evacuation plan.

Deputy Emergency Services Commissioner Tony Sutton's report to the board was the first review of the emergency plan for Indian Point since federal officials re-certified the plan last month. The plan will now include findings from the Witt report, which was put together by former Federal Emergency Management Agency Director James Lee Witt. In the report, Witt said a fast-breaking radioactive disaster would endanger people living around Indian Point.

Sutton told members of the Public Safety and Environment Committees that the evacuation plan is constantly being improved, but says he still is concerned that the county will not be able to protect the safety and health of the residents in an emergency.
